After having my daughter I finally faced the challenges most new mothers face;
..Who is the new me?
...What is my new style?
...What do I wear now?
...How do I express myself, my feelings, my taste?
My priorities have all changed. I don't have the time that I once had to keep up with style blogs, flip through magazines or stay up with the hottest trends. There is hardly time to decide what to wear. Now I'm more concerned with knowing if my child has eaten or whether she has had a diaper change before we head out the door (....Did I pack her snacks?). ...oh, and whether I want to be or not, it seems that we are always running ten minutes late. ...doh!
I need less decisions, style, & comfort to manage this new norm. After searching I've come to find that torn jeans and nuetral tee's work for me! This helps create less decision making. I can easily dress up this look with a few accessories while still feeling hip and expressive as a woman and as a Mom.
I've always had edginess to most everything I do. I don't know if it's my rebellious nature or the creative side of me. Even though I've found my look, I was still searching for a little more edge.
One evening I decided to paint on my handbag (aka 'diaper bag', it was a brown leather handbag). I painted a very feminine expressive rose on the handbag. This paired along well with my tees and torn jeans made me feel like I had the edge again. Yay! My handbag was expressive, it was raw and it was original. The following day I was getting complements left and right on my handbag. I thought to myself; could other women out there be looking for the same edge I was? Something that could take an ordinary outfit and give them an extra edge in style.
There's something really cool about wearing art. I mean real art, raw art, something made by hand, you know?! It's like it's a living work of art. So I continue making handbags to share the love of art and help give that edge to other women.
